Inspired by traditional African Black Soap, this bar contains cocoa butter, shea butter, and plantain leaf, but it is made with Botanie’s tried and true soap base for good lather and longevity. Cacao and citrus oils balance the tea tree for a complex, earthy scent profile.

• Ingredients: saponified oils of sunflower*, coconut*, palm*, and safflower* (with retained glycerin); water; cocoa butter*; essential oils of orange, tea tree, and bergamot; charcoal, plantain leaf*, cacao*; shea butter; rosemary extract

(IMPORTANT: This bar contains 85% organic ingredients. However, due to the presence of activated charcoal, it cannot be certified by the USDA National Organic Program and is not on our organic certificate.)

Superfatting is a process by which soap makers calculate soap recipes to have an excess of different oils in their soaps. The molecular structure of soap is designed to strip away grease and oils (this is how it cleans), but this dries the skin. Formulating with additional superfats counters this.

Our soaps have superfatted formulations. Superfatting soaps does not make your skin oily. Rather, it allows the soap to clean effectively without drying out your skin.
